Our History

By July 13, 2022OCULTAS

Quinta Dominica is a cultural center that operates in what was originally a monastic cell of the Convent of the Dominican order. This early 16th century building is  part of the land that King Ferdinand the Catholic had presented to the Order of the Dominicans on November 20, 1510.

Its centuries-old walls very likely witnessed the Sermon of Montesino, the first words spoken in defense of the indigenous people in the Americas. It was part of the Santo Tomás de Aquino University, the first university of the New World, and it provided lodging for its students.

Currently Quinta Dominica is a private, non-profit foundation, whose main objective is to support and carry out activities that stimulate cultural, artistic and educational development.
